Update: In January 2015 I accepted a position leading communications for the Simpson Center for the Humanities at the University of Washington. I’ll post more on what I’m doing there — once I figure that out myself!
I produce two monthly email newsletters at Bastyr University, Natural Directions and Bastyr News. They show future students about life on campus, the verve & creativity of students, the verve & brilliance of faculty, clinical research, alumni careers, and the intersection of public policy and natural medicine. They also include videos, recipes, rants from the editor about Seattle weather, and occasional bad jokes & such.
I work on a great communications team and help with web production, strategy, analytics, print projects, social media, and various efforts to support a fascinating and generally fantastic university.
Sustainable Industries: Working on a small staff for this West Coast magazine involved daily editing for the website, and everything from early-stage story planning through the design process to proofing for our bimonthly print magazine.
Grist: Working on a small editorial staff involved lots of collaborative planning, editing for colleagues and interns, and leading multimedia projects.
Brown County Democrat: Working a on a small editorial staff (sensing a theme here?) involved more of the same: planning, line-editing, lively conversations about what makes a community newspaper worthwhile.
