Editing

Carnegie

I’m a senior writer / art director / editor at Carnegie, a higher-ed communications firm with a wonderful model for helping organizations tell their stories. I help colleges and universities sharpen their voices and invigorate their storytelling.

Previous

University of Washington: Communications Director at the UW Simpson Center for the Humanities. I supported faculty and students in their research; ran a website and social media accounts; created newsletters; and told stories about the vigor & vitality of great scholarship and learning. I helped the work of others shine.

Bastyr University: I worked on a great communications team, helping with web production, strategy, analytics, print projects, social media, and various efforts to support a fascinating  university. I produced stories and email newsletters showing future students about life on campus, the verve & creativity of students, the verve & brilliance of faculty, clinical research, alumni careers, and the intersection of public policy and natural medicine.

Sustainable Industries: Working on a small staff for this West Coast magazine involved daily editing for the website, and everything from early-stage story planning through the design process to proofing for our print magazine.

Grist: Working on a small editorial staff involved lots of collaborative planning, editing for colleagues and interns, and leading multimedia projects.

Brown County Democrat: Working a on a small editorial staff (sensing a theme here?) involved more of the same: planning, line-editing, lively conversations about what makes a community newspaper worthwhile.
